Dinosaur Disks and Data Recovery
In the early days when home computers first began to become popular, very few people, if any, had digital cameras, but you could, at some film developers, receive a digital copy of your photos on a floppy disk in addition to the paper prints and film negatives.
If you knew someone else with a computer you could send these digital photos to friends or relatives via email. Of course it took forever to upload and download these massive 50kb files with a 1200 baud dial-up modem and forget about the per minute connection fee if you went over your monthly allotment of connection time. So most of these 5.25” and later 3.5” floppy disks were stored away in a box or a plastic disk holder and haven’t seen the light of day for years.
Nowadays we have unlimited connection time, high speed cable modems, and tens if not hundreds of gigabytes of storage space on our hard drives. We email photos back and forth and post them on social networking sites like Facebook every day. Unfortunately, at some point between us putting those old floppy disks into their box and today all of our computers lost their floppy drives. Now that we want those old pictures to share, we can’t find a way to get them off the disk and onto our computers.
If we’re good with electronics we might pop an old floppy drive out of one of our defunct older computers and drop it into an open bay in our new computers. We can download a device driver off the internet and get the old drive to work adequately. Unfortunately, though, the old floppy disks are likely to have degraded over the years and may now be unreadable. So after all that effort, you may find that you still can’t recapture those old photos.
Fortunately, there is still a way to recover those old photos. A company called IntelliRecovery specializes in recovering data from failed digital media. Whether it’s a failed hard drive, a broken flash drive, or yes, even those degraded old floppy disks in both 5.25” and 3.5” formats, IntelliRecovery can find those lost files and transfer them to a shiny new CD or DVD for you.
With IntelliRecovery you can recapture those eighties big hair days, or at least your old pictures of them. Even your latest computer is subject to hard drive failure, and in today’s computerized world that means that unless we make frequent back-up copies of our files, we may lose not only our only copy of precious digital photos, but also our tax records or other important data. Again, IntelliRecovery can help. No matter what kind of disk or drive has your files locked up, IntelliRecovery can set them free.
